Get that pulse pumping

Skydeck on Willis Tower

Do something that scares you everyday.

Okay, we’ve all heard that one before. Maybe it hangs out in the rafters of our minds for a moment or two, but then we decide that it’s just too much work, or that it’s actually just too terrifying, so it gets tossed out the window. I’m about to do something pretty scary, but equally exciting. I’ve decided that I’m going to ask for a leave of absence for 3 months to travel. Tomorrow is the big day I ask for a leave, and I’m super nervous, but it feels right. When I’m feeling scared or anxious, I like to read over an awesome article called “Live Your Life out Loud“. Here’s point #3: Overcome your fear.

“Get out of your comfort zone. Find out you have a pulse. Let something give you butterflies in your stomach. This is how you know you’re alive—how you grow into something new. Every fear overcome is a freedom gained. Don’t know how to overcome fear? Do the thing you’re afraid of. Cross them off the list. Make it a game. Pretty soon, you will be invincible.”

This action definitely gives me butterflies in my stomach and reminds me that I want to grow and develop as a person. If I stayed the same, growing will be a fairly slow process, if at all.

Last weekend I took a trip to Chicago that seemed to revitalize me. It’s amazing how travel can do that. Even though I’ve already been to that city twice before and had an amazing time, the experience was completely different due to the people I was with and the things we did. I know that it will be really hard traveling by myself, but as a good friend reminded me, “I do not regret the things I’ve done, but those I did not do” and “The only thing you live to regret are the risks you didn’t take”. The first motto has been one of my favourites since I heard it in Empire Records back in the 90’s. Although it’s a classic quote that I’ve felt drawn to for all of these years, it’s been quite a while since I’ve acted by it.

So excited and nervous about all of this. Can definitely feel my pulse now :)
