Last year I celebrated my 30th birthday with two great friends at Rockfest in Montebello, Quebec, and I’m so excited to be going back for another birthday weekend this year!
This festival is a completely unique experience. Although there were some logistical issues last year, the band lineup more than made up for it. Mad Caddies, Pennywise, Millencolin, Alice Cooper, The Offspring, Rancid, and the list goes on. I actually didn’t think they could top that lineup this year, and they did. The 2014 bands are incredibly nostalgic, so if you’re into good ol’ alternative, punk, ska, metal, and well, just about any kind of rock, this is the festival to be at this summer. Weezer, Blink 182, NOFX, Lagwagon, Mötley Crüe, All That Remains, and a ton of other awesome bands will be hitting the stage this year. Check out the full lineup.
I’m really excited to see how this year will compare to last year’s experience. We camped in the VIP zone last year, which was super convenient, but the showers were unusable after the first day, and space was pretty tight. So this year we’re going to try out lawn camping with a cold water shower and see how that goes. The festival got a lot of bad press last year with quite a few horror stories, but luckily we had an awesome time despite some of the issues, and I’m totally ready to try it again.
Although they didn’t have the toilet situation running smoothly last year, they definitely had the booze flowing freely. There was a beer crew walking through the crowds with pints to purchase, or you could head over to one of the serving stands, where you never had to wait more than 2 minutes!
In addition to the awesome music, there was a half pipe for the skaters, shaded areas for the loungers, pop-up stores for the shoppers, and a haunted house and carnival rides for the thrill-seekers. The stunning location along the Ottawa river is icing on the cake.
I can’t wait to do a sweet road trip with two of my best buddies up north to Montebello in less than a week. Here’s to another rock ride!!
